About the job

WHAT TO EXPECT

The role will be within the Vehicle Motion Control part of the agile project structure linking Electrical Engineering and Chassis departments. The agile squad develops control systems and delivers software design for existing and future Chassis, Electrical, ADAS Motion Control, and various new technologies for enhancing the driving experience and working towards the goal of autonomous driving.

The role is leading the calibration of next generation ADAS motion control systems using the vehicles, rigs and virtual environments within a team specialised in the creation and deployment of ADAS motion control functions. The control systems delivered cover a wide range of autonomy from ADAS level 1 to ADAS level 4.

The responsibilities of the role include testing of control functions in the vehicle and on the simulation environments, calibration of the motion control functions and software modules on prototype ECUs, de-bugging in virtual and physical environments such as the vehicle, ensuring that suitable libraries and calibrations are delivered to support all development and production releases.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Maintaining and developing the Vehicle Motion Control software to adapt to new chassis, ADAS, and powertrain hardware features.

• Root cause analysis and problem resolution of software and calibration concerns.

• Lead the delivery of calibration, software and vehicle sign off activities.

• Lead vehicle test travels including vehicle updates and preparation as well as travel logistics.

• Working with stakeholders to identify and plan calibration activities. Integrate calibrations to match software releases.

• Creation and use of specialised scripts to run on company standard tools to support ECU diagnostic services and the application / system engineers.

• On vehicle / rig de-bugging of control systems and interfaces using simulation tools.

• Logging vehicle and system data, analysing and reporting findings.

• Support manufacturing colleagues (both prototype and production) with documentation and technical assistance as required to successfully build, calibrate and test vehicles equipped with control systems.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or a related subject.

• Experience with calibration and testing software applications such as CANalyzer, CANape.

• Knowledge of Matlab and Simulink

• A strong understanding of chassis control systems, actuators and sensors.

• Understanding of quality and robustness techniques and standards such as FMEA, P-Diagrams, noise factor analysis, and data analysis techniques to support this

• Understanding of vehicle networks, diagnostics, ECUs and electronics.

• An ability to work independently to solve complex technical issues using a structured approach and identify areas for improvement.

• Proving ground experience of planning and executing vehicle tests

Desirable:

• Experience of model-based control function development.

• Knowledge of Rapid Control Prototyping tools (e.g. DSpace Control Desk for MicroAutobox or similar)

• Component and system level issue investigations including appropriate problem solving and reporting tools (Six Sigma, 5D, Is / Is Not, Fault Tree etc)

• Prior automotive controls experience in; ADAS systems, Chassis, Vehicle Dynamics, or Longitudinal Control preferred, though strong candidates with relevant control system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered

• Experience of safety critical systems and software, including standards such as ISO26262, IEC61508 or similar.

• Advanced driving permits.

• Experience of installing and using vehicle instrumentation and data logging equipment.

• Experience with following software applications; Targetlink, CarMaker, Configuration Desk, MS Project, Matlab and Simulink.
