About the job

As the lead calibration engineer you will work as part of a team developing and delivering gasoline engine calibrations for new electrified powertrains. Collaborating with the Powertrain teams to meet challenging new emissions legislation and customer attributes. Lead calibration role within the Base Engine Calibration Team. Responsible for leading and delivering calibration activities within the base engine calibration. Work closely with Subject Matter Experts and project leads. Lead junior members of the team.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Support the development of new gasoline engine technologies for new programmes to meet challenging new requirements (emissions legislation, customer attributes)
  • Utilise virtual and physical testing with efficient calibration methodologies and tools to develop and validate calibrations that meet programme targets and timing
  • Plan and deliver work packages within JLR’s Agile framework
  • Support the Product Owner in identifying priorities and tasks during Sprint Planning and Reviews
  • Liaise with and escalate issues to the Scrum Master during Daily Stand-ups
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts and Project Leads to ensure there is sufficient resources to deliver work packages on time and to target
  • Manage test facility requirements and liaise with test teams to ensure test resource is capable and available
  • Report the calibration maturity and health through the use of Calibration Management and status reporting (AVL-CRETA)
  • Ensure calibration control and data acquisition to support Certification and Compliance teams
  • Support other teams testing software & calibrations
  • Liaise and collaborate with suppliers and engineering service providers
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Previous calibration experience, ideally in powertrain and vehicle systems, with combustion engine & emissions experience
  • Previous experience delivering an engine calibration from concept through to certification
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of interactions between engine calibration, engine / PTSE hardware and vehicle sub-systems
  • Proven knowledge of worldwide emissions standard and requirements
  • Able to demonstrate a structured approach to problem solving
  • Excellent data analysis skills, ability to form conclusions and present a coherent summary
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience
  • Full UK Driving License

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Powertrain controls and calibration, ideally to a detailed level
  • Use of Matlab, Simulink to develop software and run simulations
  • Use of ETAS INCA, MDA calibration tools
  • Use of AVL Cameo, Concerto for test automation and data analysis
  • Experience of the Agile Framework and Scrum and the use of toolsets such as Jira and LucidSpark
