WHAT TO EXPECT 

We are looking for a CAE Lead Engineer to complete analysis of Vehicle Safety (structural and occupant) and Service (low speed Thatcham) load cases.

The engineer will be required to build CAE models, run CAE analyses, post-process analysis results, and then lead feedback and development discussions with customers to support delivery of components that meet performance requirements.  


 Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Support mesh and model build activities
  • Be able to complete all crash analysis for which the BCAE Front and Rear Crash Chapter has responsibility
  • Coordinate and lead analysis tasks for yourself and other allocated chapter engineers as required  
  • Communicate baseline analysis results in both written and verbal formats
  • Be able to summarise results succinctly and with clarity to key stakeholders
  • Liaise with all internal customers of our business as well as offshore operations where necessary
  • Support performance development at component, subsystem, and trimmed body level for your programme 
  • Provide evidence-based and data-driven recommendations to guide design direction
  • Develop an awareness of design constraints, ensuring they are considered when proposing design solutions  
  • Work effectively with squads to maximise the technical offering for our customers  
  • Support and present at showcase events with key stakeholders 
  • Be the first point of contact for key stakeholders (Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Structures etc..)  
  • Implement BCAE analysis tools and processes; use existing tool set and support implementation of new tools
  • Implement pre and post processing scripts for automation of model set-up and results on the JLR HPC     
  • Implement lessons learnt and actions of prevent reoccurrence from previous vehicle programmes   
  • Document lessons learnt from your own programme and share with the Chapter
  • Support development of tools and techniques which enhance capability and improve quality
  • Implement DOE’s and robustness analyses in order to provide a range of possible performance outcomes
  • Implement optimisation analyses in order to create efficient design solutions (cost, weight, package)
  • Liaise with test teams, including the creation of inspection documents prior to physical test   
  • Visit test facilities to view physical properties in order to support issue resolution activities 
  • Mentor and train junior team members and graduates 
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

 WHAT YOU NEED


Knowledge and experience

Essential:

  • Working knowledge and experience of CAE methodologies
  • Previous experience and background in solving complex technical ideas and challenges
  • Previous experience of safety component/system level development using CAE to meet defined performance targets
  • Previous experience of delivering engineering or analytical projects
  • Competent in the use of explicit analysis software and associated pre and post-processing packages
    • Hyper Works, LS DYNA, Oasys (D3Plot, Primer, THis)
  • Competent in the use of Digibuck and/or PLM
  • Project and people management skills
  • Experience in proposing product modifications to improve design
  • Robustness analysis
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in continuous improvements to business processes to support customer service and financial objectives
  • Experience in working practices relating to CAE methods and processes
  • Competent in the use of
  • Optistruct, Abaqus, Optimisation processes
