Driven by a changing consumer, regulatory, technological and competitive landscape, JLR have created a compelling vision for who we want to be in the future. At the heart of this will be the culture, talent and organisational structure to ensure we have the agility and competence to continue to accelerate ahead of the market. • Achieve net-zero carbon emissions across supply chain, products and operations by 2039.
  • Collaborations and knowledge-sharing with industry leaders, in particular from within the wider groups will allow the company to explore potential synergies on clean energy, connected services, data and software development leadership.

Within GME, Stamping Engineering is one of six Technology Specialisms having specific responsibility for the engineering, manufacture and delivery of press tooling (dies, automation and fixtures), as well as the related end to end process (‘coil to pallet’), into our press shops and our key partner press shops globally. It also has responsibility for the planning and delivery of all new press shop facilities and equipment in to JLR press shops worldwide.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a lead engineer role within GME, Stamping Engineering to lead the development of sheet metals and lubricants for JLR products across all UK stamping locations.

This highly technical role will provide a combination of strategic and tactical leadership for the Stamping Group in the area of material formability. Based primarily in our Engineering Headquarters at Gaydon, this role will develop our understanding of material formability. This will include working with suppliers to develop metals and lubricants that suit our production processes, driving robust theoretical understanding leading to high levels of process stability in the press shops, and also driving material piece price reduction on current and future vehicles.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

This engineering role will involve working as part of a small team engaged in the following:

  • Lead the material formability assessments for new materials that could potentially be used through JLR Press Shops.
  • Value stream mapping of the material supply chain from ingot to finished part/scrap, leading projects to improve efficiency and reduce lead-times.
  • Facilitate standardising material testing equipment and procedures across supply based and within our Press Shops.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of material related process standards e.g. blanker and ‘Head of Line’ specifications.

What You’ll Need

Essential:

  • Relevant previous experience in materials engineering or similar.
  • In-depth understanding of materials, and material properties and processes specifically relating to forming technologies.
  • A working knowledge of steel and aluminium manufacturing and press shop facilities (e.g. blast furnaces, cast houses, rolling mills, heat treatment lines, cut to length and blanking lines, destackers, reoilers, presses, etc)
  • An ability to analyse and assess large amounts of data.
  • Significant experience in delivering projects against clear milestones and within tight timeframes.

SO WHY US?

Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme.
