About the job

The Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) provides front line maintenance support to Oxford University departments based in the University’s varied functional estate portfolio. This portfolio includes over 230 buildings comprising teaching and research spaces, libraries, museums and administrative functions. These include a large number of internationally significant buildings, such as the Grade I listed Radcliffe Camera and Bodleian Libraries, world renowned museums, such as the Ashmolean and the University Museum of the History of Science, and important research collections, such as the Oxford Botanic Gardens and Arboretum. In addition to these important heritage assets, the estate also includes a large number of highly technical science and research buildings, award winning modern architecture and an interesting collection of mid-late 20th century structures which each present their own set of challenges.

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance of Mechanical plant and equipment across the University estate. They will report directly to the Mechanical Supervisor, but will be responsible for prioritising, planning and carrying out allocated tasks.

As well as extensive experience of Mechanical maintenance, the post holder will be computer literate and able to keep accurate electronic records, ideally using handheld devices. Experience of supervising contractors is essential, as is the ability to work in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
