The role

As a Maintenance Planning Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll help maintain the security of the United Kingdom by ensuring the Submarine Service is available at all times.

Day to day, you'll work within the high tempo and technically challenging environment of nuclear submarine maintenance planning. You will support the Submarine Lead in generating and maintaining Through Life maintenance plans, which optimise work package efficiency and submarine availability.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support to submarine programme changes and what-if scenarios. Balancing maintenance against an ever-challenging programme is key to ensuring safe, capable and available submarines
  • Using the new asset management tool, developed specifically for submarines, to provide a holistic view and approach to managing maintenance requirements through life
  • Working closely with relevant Subject Matter Experts across Babcock, the Royal Navy, MOD and Industry Partners
  • Involvement in the development of the new through life boat plan application with the rest of the team

This is a full time, permanent role (36hrs per week) with a mix of working from home and onsite with approx. 2 days per week at Babcock Technology Centre. There is also an option to work a 9 day fortnight if desired (this is currently in a trial period).

Essential experience of the Maintenance Planning Engineer

  • Awareness of ship or submarine maintenance planning and/or execution
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to produce technical reports and recommendations
  • Willingness to work toward continuous professional development
  • Strong IT skills and experience in analysing data through Excel, or similar computer programmes

Qualifications for the Maintenance Planning Engineer

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering based discipline or HNC/HND or demonstrable relevant experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve Security Clearance for this role and must be a sole UK national.
