WHAT TO EXPECT

This role will lead engineering and technical support to design, develop and implement manufacturing production processes to enable successful launch of new products, ensuring feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing build requirements, Design for Manufacture (DFM) and compliance with the Bill of Process (BOP). This includes the creation of process, delivery of tools, jigs & fixtures, quality, data analysis and reporting of major issues, deployment of failure mode avoidance tools, support of cross-functional teams in the resolution of those issues on projects and the tracking of resolution through to completion.

You’ll be part of a team of engineers, the role requires collaboration across functions to ensure we have established compliance with the BOP to deliver processes that meet our takt time and quality targets. It is also important for us to share best practice across the platforms and between manufacturing plants to ensure we employ the best processes available wherever possible.

You will also be responsible for driving continuous improvement after the launch of new production facilities, including OPR, RTY and scrap rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project manage, develop and implement all written processes, tooling, gauging, jigs and fixtures for new model introduction and model year changes
  • Generate build process strategies for manufacturing
  • Co-ordinate process tooling supplier selection and vendor management
  • Provide feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing build requirements, Design for Manufacture (DFM) and alignment to Bill of Process (BOP)
  • Complete studies to deliver process capability of all processes and equipment, including SPC applications
  • Ensure application of Lean Manufacturing and Design principles
  • Develop specialist process knowledge and assist with training for production and maintenance teams
  • Work towards team and departmental objectives
  • Ensure team adherence to IATF16949 compliance standards
  • Manage technical issues and escalate where appropriate
  • Represent PTME at program meetings and present where applicable
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time
  • Co-ordinate the development and submission of departmental responses to product letters, PACNS etc
  • Support and lead virtual design events, raising and managing issues where appropriate.
  • Manage physical builds at plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

WHAT YOU’ll NEED

Required

  • Relevant previous experience of Manufacturing / Engineering processes, tools and techniques
  • Flexible approach to job responsibilities and working hours
  • Demonstrable ability to create detailed and effective action plans
  • Knowledge of high-precision machining processes (particularly grinding, lapping, balancing, milling, drilling, reaming, boring, heat treatment, etc)
  • Knowledge of gauging, washing and assembly operations for machined components

Desirable

  • Ideally educated to degree level in Manufacturing or a similar engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of and involvement in the product development phase
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of PCDS/ IPS requirements & Lean Manufacturing
  • Experience in the procurement and management of multiple machine tools covering a wide range of machining processes including grinding, milling, drilling, reaming, honing, assembly & test cells, washes and a variety of automation.
  • Experience in programming CNC’s / CMM’s/ Robots and Controls would be of benefit as we drive for greater levels of self-sufficiency.
  • A good knowledge of CAD, PCDS, APQP, AIMs and other systems used in Jaguar Land Rover would be of benefit.
