The Opportunity

Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations was launched in June 2014 with an aggressive plan to develop the Special Vehicles, Heritage Goods and Personalisation elements of the JLR group. Within that, Classic operations were consolidated under one roof in a 14,000m2 state-of-art facility in 2017. This facility compromises 54 individual workshop bays and strip down areas, dedicated engine and trim shops along with space for a total of 480 vehicles. Our specialist teams are dedicated to creating and supplying Authentic Cars, Owner Services, Genuine Parts and Classic Experiences.

This role is within the planning function of Classic Operations; a key support to the successful and robust delivery of complete vehicle programmes, one off bespoke vehicle projects and retail service work content. The role will cover the coordination of all supporting business functions to deliver programme launches on time, to cost whilst achieving exacting quality standards to deliver the very highest levels of customer satisfaction based on our customer first principles.  This will be a key role, requiring self leadership and interpersonal skills cross-functionally across the Classic business, MP&L, Production, Engineering, Purchasing, Sales and Marketing.

The position is within a relatively new expanding team responsible for planning, quality standards control and equipment / structure to ensure delivery of all vehicles from Classic. This will include the support of production when necessary, with problem solving and quality improvement.

Working towards improved integration into SO and JLR working methods, this role will look to continually adopt new practices and evolve, with a focus on the planning and management of build requirements, including facility & equipment suitability.  This role will work closely with both Vehicle Engineers and Programme Leads to ensuring value for money is achieved recognising the safety, quality and delivery objectives.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

● Active member of planning team working safely and promoting safe working whilst complete work tasks.
● Develop and document process for production and or service to ensure repeatably OK condition is achieved
● Be part of the team completing the required input to Gateways and build readiness ensuring alignment against all key programme or project deliverables.
● Participate in the Problem Management process for operations, driving timely resolution of issues and roadblocks.
● Prepare input into presentation & reporting of programme status under guidance of Lead Manufacturing Engineer.
● Promote a culture of continuous improvement via involvement in Lessons Learned and the use of Best Practice.
● Developing standards for Production & MP&L e.g., Body protection, Torque Tooling, Process Standards
● Attend new model launch review meetings as instructed and present status where necessary
● Input to Health and Safety audits, such as the Safety and Health Assessment Review Process and Plant Launch Scorecard metrics
● Work closely with Engineering team for problem resolution via and Problem & Countermeasure process
● Ensure delivery of all launch metrics in line with launch timing for the programme / projects you are assigned
● Provide guidance and advice using appropriate risk analysis tools on launch feasibility
● Effective planning and delivery of all workforce readiness activity including training plans, process instructions
● Understand resource planning and headcount requirements to support the plan for your programmes / projects
● Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:
● Qualified to degree level in an appropriate technical discipline or relevant time served industry experience.
● Driven individual with proven project management and planning skills.
● Ability to work with and motivate production teams
● Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
● Awareness of the JLR quality operating systems.
● Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision when necessary to deliver key objectives
● Structured approach to problem solving, with attention to detail.
● Ability to drive change and be transformational in your day-to-day work
● Proven Planning/Operations experience

Desirable:
● Knowledge of Launch Quality Operating Systems procedures & deliverables
● Working knowledge & experience of Trim & Final Assembly area is desirable
● Working knowledge & experience of off track/post build process activity
● Knowledge of JLR Classic vehicles – C, D & E-Types, Defender, Series 1, 2 & 3 Land Rover, Range Rover Classic
● Knowledge of torque tooling equipment and systems including calibration & validation
● Knowledge of process capability and repeatability

Desirable: 
● Previous experience planning for production
● Working knowledge of classic vehicles and the challenges such vehicles bring with them.
