An exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Operations Manager to join the Operations Function, as Process and Tools SME, in a fast-paced but friendly and inclusive Greater Manufacturing Function environment.

Job Title: Manufacturing Operations Manager – Process and Tools

Salary: Circa £55,000 - £65,000 depending on experience 

Location: Bolton

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4 days a week on site / 1 day a week remotely, due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

This opportunity is for a Manufacturing Operations Manager to join the Operations Function, as Process and Tools SME, to help shape and deliver the process and tools needs of the Function. You will be responsible for assisting the Head of Operations Function in:

  • Support the Operations Function with process and tool improvement initiatives.
  • Creation, development and review of Operations specific BMS, CSK and User Guides, ensuring:
    • Adherence to SHE policies and requirements, and external standards
    • Alignment of local processes to BMS and other functions within Greater Manufacturing
    • Lean and robust quality processes
    • Implementation of process review plan
  • Responsible for risk identification and aversion strategies associated with Manufacturing demand/supply in terms of new process and tool requirements.
  • Identification and support for new tool development and deployment
    • Ensuring standardisation of tools and their use across MBDA UK
    • Ensuring cross-tool integration where required
  • Liaise with key stakeholders (e.g Business Units, Training & Development Manufacturing Operations Manager, etc.) where required to ensure they are aware of any relevant changes to existing processes or tools.
  • Provide process and tool support to deployed Manufacturing Operations Managers as appropriate / where required.
  • Key player in the development of a longer term technology roadmap, in collaboration with the NPI team and individual Business Units
    • Ensuring external benchmarking and a parity of approach
  • Provide support to deployed Manufacturing Operations Managers in their relationship with the TU.
  • Attend on behalf of the Head of Operations Function the monthly Team Leader meeting to pick up points of escalation, advise on process and tools queries, and assist in the resolution of functional issues.
  • Act as the Manufacturing Operations interface for support and improvement activities where functional support to process and tools are required (e.g. Operational Excellence, Product Certification/Stamp Authority, etc.).

You will be supporting the Head of Operations Function in ensuring the Operations community is at the forefront of industry standards, in a fast-paced but friendly and inclusive Greater Manufacturing Function environment. The team has a great mix of people, all striving to deliver functional excellence.

  • An ability to form strong cross-functional relationships and collaborate with those in similar roles within the Greater Manufacturing Function to ensure a parity of approach
  • Robust planning and organisational skills; the ability to ensure multiple tasks are prioritised and monitored to ensure delivery of objectives.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about delivering the role; the ability to engage a variety of audiences and levels of understanding to ensure that existing processes and tools are effective and understood by the Operations community.
  • Approachable and seen as a go to person when process and tools needs or shortfalls are identified and instrumental in a swift resolution.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
