Role Type: Full time / Permanent
Role ID: SF55271

At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Marine Surveyor at our Clyde, Faslane site.

Whilst ideally you will be an experienced surveyor within the marine environment, we will also consider candidates seeking a development role within the department. Babcock will provide a training and development plan for you to become a fully SQEP Marine Surveyor within 24 months.

The Fleet Operations Directorate for the Compliance Department is focused on ensuring that our Royal Navy's Submarine Fleet comply with rules, standards, and laws. With successful delivery, we support and enhance our customers' defence and security capabilities and critical assets, meeting their requirements of value for money, increased availability, modernisation, and flexibility.

The role
As a Marine Surveyor, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will conduct visual inspections in accordance with the Hull Survey Requirement (HSR) for our submarines. This inspection requirement provides evidence of the structural material state of the vessel to ensure the platform is fit to go to sea.

Day to day, you'll conduct visual inspections of our vessels, and produce technical reports of those vessels to provide sufficient information to allow the design authority to make an informed decision to identify any remedial work or further inspections. In this role you will also:

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to assure compliance with specific regulations and codes.
  • Work with your Senior Surveyors and Project Teams to support sequencing of work packages.
  • Support the management team in the collective endeavour to maintain and improve safety.
  • Oversee contractors, inspecting result of survey work.

This role is based at HMNB Clyde, Faslane and offers a 37-hour work week ((Monday to Thursday: 0800 - 1630, Friday: 0800 - 1300). We offer flexible working and are happy to discuss this with you in more detail.

Essential experience of the Marine Surveyor:

Whilst ideally you will be an experienced surveyor within the marine environment, we will also consider candidates seeking a development role within the department. Babcock will provide a training and development plan for you to become a fully SQEP Marine Surveyor within 24 months. There is an expectation that you will attend off site training and examinations. More details on this can be provided at interview stage.

Qualifications for the Marine Surveyor

  • Ideally you will be proficient in preparing surveying technical reports.
  • Level 3 Mechanical, Electrical, Constructive or Engineering qualification or equivalent (HNC).
  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
