We have an exciting role for a Math Modeller to work within the Lethality and Requirements Authority team, you'll be working with a team of 25 skilled engineers involved in modelling and lethality performance assessment, and the specification of lethal packages, which are comprised of Fuzing and Warhead sub-systems.

Salary: Circa £51,000 - £59,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

In your role as Math Modeller within the Complex Warhead Centre of Excellence (CW CofEx) you'll report in to the Head of Lethality for activities covering Fuze and Warhead sub-systems, and modelling of Lethality Performance.  The role will principally involve the development of lethality modelling, performance algorithm optimisation, and data analysis tools with significant visualisation (principally in MATLAB) to analyse the lethality model results.

The Lethality Modelling group within the Complex Warheads Centre of Excellence is a growing department of ~25 people with a range of skills and experience.  A main focus is on the development of performance assessment models and the analysis tools required to enable interpretation of large data sets.  The Department is also actively involved in research tasks either utilising internal funding streams or working with external partners.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Degree qualified in a numerate discipline
  • Experience and understanding of mathematical modelling
  • Proven track record of delivery
  • Strong problem solver able to look strategically at the capability needs of the customer and MBDA
  • Ability to build relationships with our customers and partners

The role will require the flexibility to be able to:

  • Lead studies to provide contributions to project performance statements, to enhance and optimise weapon performance.
  • Provide innovation into the domain to anticipate and derive emerging needs. Participate in or lead internal and external research programmes.
  • Take ownership of the missile kill probability and negotiate with related domains (such as Homing and Guidance) to define requirement flowdown.
  • Liaise with subcontractors and in-house teams to ensure quality products are developed, and that contractor models are suitable for integration into our overall Lethality Model.
  • Provide close liaison with MoD technical expertise and Research agencies to ensure customer satisfaction with our products.
  • Prepare and give seminars/presentations to demonstrate Lethality and Warhead department capabilities to internal and external customers
