MBDA is a leading defence organisation.  We are proud of the role we play in supporting the Armed Forces who protect our nations. We partner with governments to work together towards a common goal, defending our freedom.

Salary: Circa £50,000 depending on experience

What we can offer you:

  • Company bonus of up to £2,500 (based on company performance and will vary year to year)
  • Pension of maximum total (employer and employee) contribution of up to 14%
  • Paid overtime
  • Up to 15 additional days flexi leave
  • Our enhanced parental leave offers up to 26 weeks for maternity, adoption and shared parental leave. Enhancements are available for paternity leave, neonatal leave and fertility testing and treatments.
  • Fantastic site facilities, including subsidised meals, free car parking (and gym on site at Stevenage)
  • Excellent career progression and development opportunities
  • We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role

Dynamic (hybrid) working: We trust our people to agree, within their teams, where and when they can be most effective. Our Dynamic Working policy allows individuals flexibility around the hours they work and where they work. Typically for this role you will work 3 days on-site.

The opportunity:

MBDA has a fantastic opportunity in our Complex Warhead Centre of Excellence (CW CofEx) for a Modelling Engineer. The role will involve modelling and lethality performance assessment and the specification of packages which are comprised of Fuzing and Warhead sub-systems.

Lethality is critical in determining the capability of our products; encompassing many aspects of the missile but focussing on the warhead and fuzing subsystems.  This is a highly visible role, giving you the opportunity to develop a high level of personal domain expertise of lethality assessment techniques.

You will have the opportunity to become expert in Lethality, Matlab, Hydrocode Modelling (e.g. ANSYS) and Program Management.

The Role

  • Development of lethality modelling, performance algorithm optimisation, and data analysis tools with significant visualisation (principally in MATLAB) to analyse the lethality model results.
  • Lead studies to provide contributions to project performance statements, to enhance and optimise weapon performance.
  • Provide innovation into the domain to anticipate and derive emerging needs. Participate in or lead internal and external research programmes.
  • Liaise with subcontractors and in-house teams to ensure quality products are developed, and that contractor models are suitable for integration into our overall Lethality Model.
  • Provide close liaison with MoD technical expertise and Research agencies to ensure customer satisfaction with our products.
  • Prepare and give seminars/presentations to demonstrate Lethality and Warhead department capabilities to internal and external customers.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Mathematical modelling, MATLAB, algorithm design and finite element modelling experience
  • Substantial analytical and problem solving skills
  • Engineering experience in defence & aerospace products, particularly but not essentially missiles, weapon systems and defence equipment
  • Understanding of project and budget management, and proven ability to work to tight timescales, within financial and technical constraints.

Our Business:

We respect new perspectives and experiences, and we value our collaborative ways of working. We are committed to growing and supporting diversity in our workforce and ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity to reach their potential.   MBDA is proud of our employee-led networks, examples include: Gender Equality, Pride, Menopause Matters, Parents and Carers, Armed Forces, Ethnic Diversity, Neurodiversity and more…

As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

Due to the nature of our business, this particular vacancy requires the applicant as a minimum to be a British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship and capable of achieving the clearance levels mentioned above.
