About the job

Mechanical and Electrical Engineer
The Blacksmiths, Hyde Park. London (with travel across all the Royal Parks)

The Royal Parks is a charity created in March 2017. We manage over 5,000 acres of diverse parkland, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across London. These are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James’s Park, The Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park. We also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower Gardens. Our eight Royal Parks and other public spaces are among the most visited attractions in the UK with 77 million visits every year.

We are now looking for a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer to support our Works Department, which is responsible for the protection and conservation of the built environment within our estate.

Our Estate

Most of our estate’s assets are buildings and structures, such as bridges and statues. We have 32 miles of roads, seven bodies of water, street lighting which includes one of London’s largest collection of working gas lamps, as well as private water and electric utilities.

We’re also responsible for a collection of over 30 water fountains, the largest of which is the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. We have begun to invest heavily in a sustainable water management strategy for our numerous fountains and irrigation systems and are introducing LED lighting.

The Benefits

- Salary of £43,000-£48,000 per annum, depending on experience
- Flexible working
- Pension scheme
- Work from beautiful offices in Hyde Park
- 26 days’ holiday per annum

This is a brilliant opportunity to get involved with a diverse portfolio of work. Our parks environment is dynamic so every day will bring variety and new challenges.

From incredible historic buildings, statues and memorials, to the pathways and public facilities across all 5,000 acres, you will help to ensure that these iconic sites can be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

The Role

As a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, you will ensure that works across our estate are delivered to specified M&E standards, quality and processes.

Working with colleagues from the Works department, you will support both facilities management and project activities.

As part of a small, passionate team, you will:

- Inspect, identify and review the technical elements and effects of M&E systems
- Examine contractors’ work
- Prepare preventative maintenance plans and review operation and maintenance manuals
- Submit applications to utility providers for new upgrades
- Prepare project briefs and feasibility studies
- Ensure that we operate in line with relevant regulations and legislation

About You

To join us as a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, you will need:

- Strong experience as a site installation supervisor and/or inspector of mechanical and/or electrical installations on new and refurbishment projects in occupied buildings
- Experience of effectively managing contractors, inspecting a broad range of agreed standards and keeping accurate records
- Experience of working on Low Voltage electrical supplies
- A solid technical understanding covering building services, as well as electrical and mechanical maintenance
- An engineering degree or similar qualification in mechanical or/electrical ONC/HNC BTEC/NVQ L3 or equivalent related subject and a significant amount of years’ work experience

We would like to hear from you if you’ve worked as a Mechanical and Electrical Works Engineer, M&E Engineer, M&E Installation Engineer, Site Supervisor, Works Supervisor, Project Engineer, or M&E Maintenance Engineer.
