Job Description
The salary for this role is £54,376 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is based the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our engineering team in delivering high-quality projects and services across the site. In this role, you will contribute to the continuous improvement and maintenance of existing installations, while also playing a key part in the design and implementation of new builds and major upgrades. Additionally, you will be involved in the safe assembly, upkeep, and development of advanced neutral beam equipment (PINIs), helping to drive innovation and operational excellence within our organisation.

Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver projects safely, efficiently, and effectively using project management tools such as requirements capture, scheduling, risk registers, resource planning, and communication plans.
- Write WSSW, assembly procedures, and risk assessments for assembly, commissioning, and rebuild tasks.
- Provide technical support across planning, logistics, design, equipment development, facility deployment, maintenance, repairs, rebuilds, and supervision of controlled areas.
- Support team members and the wider organisation, with a focus on mentoring apprentices, graduates, and new staff.
- Lead Neutral Beam (MAST) upgrades, maintenance (removal and installation), and alternative work packages.
Qualifications
Essential:
- BEng or equivalent experience in mechanical design/ mechanical engineering.
- Demonstratable working experience in safety management.
- Proven awareness of HVAC systems.
- Demonstrate understanding and awareness of relevant regulation and legislation.
Desirables:
- Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) trained.
- Swagelok trained.
- Understanding of tritium boundaries.
- Understanding and awareness of alternative engineering disciplines (18th Edition wiring regulation qualification).
