Job Title: Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer

Location: PQ Silicas - Warrington Site

Salary: £46,293.00 (Basic Salary) plus £6,660.00 (Rota/Call Out Allowance)

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time - 37.5hr Week

The Role:

To maintain site plant and infrastructure through effective preventative and reactive maintenance to achieve a safe working environment & optimal equipment technical availability whilst working within the agreed policies, standards and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

To maintain all the plant and equipment on the PQ Silicas Warrington Site. The equipment is to be maintained in a safe and efficient manner to ensure maximum plant reliability. The technician will be involved with the commissioning of new equipment and will interact with other members of the plant's maintenance and production teams.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Investigate faults and repair mechanical plant and equipment
  • Carry out planned maintenance schedules in accordance with the requirements of the planned maintenance system to minimise downtime and contribute to the achievement of production targets
  • The inspection, maintenance and adjustments of mechanical plant and associated equipment in accordance with necessary GMP standards
  • Clear understanding of pumps, blowers, conveyors, piping systems, high speed micronisers / mills, palletisers / packing machines, and hydraulic equipment
  • To actively participate in meetings, reliability studies and RCAs to assist in making improvements.
  • Proactively identify and progress minor improvement projects
  • Liaising with suppliers of equipment to ensure the correct specification and procurement of spares
  • Adhere to SHE principles, demonstrating commitment to safety through language, willingness to learn, behaviour and actions, complying with PQ safety practices and committed to zero tolerance of unsafe acts
  • Fully familiar with the permit to work system, risk assessment and isolation procedures
  • Motivated and eager to contribute to continuous improvement both at a personal and team level
  • Good verbal, written and problem-solving skills, able to prepare technical reports, procedures and able to plan work
  • Good IT skills, building on existing proficiency and developing competence in the Company's systems

Special Features:

  • Part of the Technician on call rota and weekend end duty cover
  • May be required to work extra banked hours as required by business
  • The Mechanical Technician will be expected to work across all areas of PQ Silicas Warrington site
  • Ability to safely undertake basic electrical & instrumentation tasks, e.g. motor disconnect/reconnect

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

The job holder ideally will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in Mechanical engineering roles within chemical / manufacturing industry with some familiarisation of electrical and instrumentation engineering. Further Multi skilling training will be provided if required.

Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training scheme, supplemented by training.

HNC in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent and / or relevant experience. Excellent understanding of all process plants and able to diagnose faults on Process Equipment.

The Technician will be expected to become conversant with all PQ Silicas Engineering standards.

The Technician will be expected to become conversant with PQ Silicas SAP system as used within the Engineering Department.

Working Hours: M-F 08:00am - 4:00pm (with half an hour for lunch), salary includes 160 banked hours, approximately 1 week in 10 they will be on call, there's also weekend cover 1 in 10 with a long weekend to compensate.
