The role
As a Naval Architect, you'll have a role that is out of the ordinary. Our Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering (NAME) group sits within the Maritime and Land business of QinetiQ and consists a team of over 50 people. The team delivers hydrodynamic testing and design consultancy services. Hydrodynamic problem solving forms a significant part of the project work within group - identifying a methodology for solving a client's hydrodynamic issues, mathematically or through model testing.

The role requires an excellent understanding of Naval Architecture principles and the ability to use that knowledge together with sound engineering judgement to solve our customer's important problems. In particular, knowledge of the methods and tools used within hydrodynamic design and assessment is desirable. Practicing knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics is strongly desired.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Work collaboratively with customers and colleagues to deliver ensure the customers' requirements are and providing innovative solutions to customers' problems.
  • Breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work. This will include being customer facing and supervision of others.
  • Ensure the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices to Team Lead.
  • Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the NAME Group.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week, based at our Bristol Business Park site, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Essential experience of the Naval Architect

  • You should have knowledge of Naval Architecture.
  • The Naval Architect should have experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
