WHAT TO EXPECT

At Jaguar Land Rover, Whitley UK we are currently seeking an experienced OBD Certificate Engineer to join our Powertrain Engineering Department. This is a diverse position, where the successful candidate will work with various vehicles, including our EV and BEV to support our plan our journey to zero emissions. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of OBD documents required by the various certifying authorities across the globe (California, Japan, Brazil and more),  as well as developing and executing plans for the certification of Jaguar Land Rover’s products to the various OBD standards. You will be given the ability to travel overseas and to meet with different authorities once per year. 

Although testing will be a small part of the duties, you will be coordinating OBD requirements and test requirements for the modules and vehicles to be tested. 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • OBD Certification of JLR vehicles to the various OBD standards:
  • European OBD
  • OBD II for California
  • OBDBr-2 and OBDBr-D for Brazil
  • China
  • Other markets as required, eg. Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, Thailand
  • Alignment of Diesel and Gasoline processes and procedures for OBD certification:
  • Identify the best practise for the main OBD certification activities from each discipline
  • Use experience from both disciplines to determine the future process
  • Identify any test vehicles required to support OBD certification and organise the associated test programmes, write and issue test reports.
  • Certification previews for North America, selection of vehicles for DDV and PVE tests
  • Worst case discussions for Europe and identification of witnessed testing requirements
  • Responsible for the preparation of the documents required by the various certifying authorities, primarily gasoline OBD II for California. The role involves working from supplier documentation and calibration files to produce the certification documents.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Educated to degree standard in an engineering discipline or with an appropriate level of experience in the field of automotive engineering.
  • Knowledge of the OBD II and EOBD regulations. Applicants must be able to explain what the main requirements are of these different regulations and how the Company gains approval for its products.
  • Ability to understand engine management system documentation, for example Bosch function frames. Applicants must be able to communicate detailed ideas to suppliers and other engine management engineers.
  • Experience in the application or calibration of engine management systems, preferably in the specification and development of OBD functions.
  • Ability to work with the ETAS INCA toolset to establish calibration settings for the OBD monitors and collect data to justify any changes that may be required to diagnostic functionality or to answer questions from regulators on the functionality of our OBD systems.
  • Understanding of SAE J1699 testing and review of results.
  • Ability to communicate complex engine management functions clearly and present work at management reviews and at meetings with regulators
