WHAT TO EXPECT
The role will be within the Chassis and Motion Control Systems team, forming part of the Body/Chassis Engineering Department. The team develops control systems and delivers software design for existing and future Chassis, Electrical, ADAS Motion Control, and various new technologies for enhancing the driving experience and working towards the goal of autonomous driving.
The role is supporting the development of next generation ADAS motion control systems into ECUs, vehicles, rigs and virtual environments within a team specialised in the creation and deployment of ADAS motion control functions. The control systems delivered cover a wide range of autonomy from ADAS level 1 to ADAS level 4.
The responsibilities of the role include design and development of model-based control functions, demonstration of new concepts and systems via desktop simulation and concept vehicles, working with software engineers to update and improve existing systems and architectures and testing and de-bugging in virtual and physical environments. To do this you will be involved in the requirements analysis and decomposition, control strategy design, development and execution of validation process and associated simulation environments. You will be working with a team of system and control engineers, including an offshore team, to deliver concept and production systems in a timely manner according to vehicle programme timing and local delivery milestones
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Design and development of model-based control strategies. This includes development and demonstration of new concepts and systems via desktop simulation and concept vehicles and working with software engineers to update and improve existing systems and architectures.
• Requirements analysis and decomposition, control strategy design, development and execution of validation process and associated simulation environments.
• Working with a team of system and control engineers, including an offshore team, to deliver concept and production systems in a timely manner according to vehicle programme timing and local delivery milestones
• De-bugging of control systems and interfaces using simulation tools.
• Support vehicle and system data logging, analysing and reporting findings.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
• A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related subject.
• Thorough understanding of Control System design and development using the Mathworks toolchain (Matlab / Simulink / Stateflow) for real time applications.
• Experience of delivery through all stages of the engineering development ‘V’ cycle, including understanding of system and software engineering principals
• Understanding of quality and robustness techniques and standards such as FMEA, P-Diagrams, noise factor analysis, and data analysis techniques to support this
• Understanding of quality and robustness techniques and standards such as FMEA, P-Diagrams, noise factor analysis, and data analysis techniques to support this
• An ability to work independently to solve complex technical issues using a structured approach and identify areas for improvement.
Desirable:
• A postgraduate degree (e.g. MSc or PhD) in control systems or a related subject.
• Knowledge of Rapid Control Prototyping tools (e.g. DSpace Control Desk for MicroAutobox or similar)
• Component and system level issue investigations including appropriate problem solving and reporting tools (Six Sigma, 5D, Is / Is Not, Fault Tree etc)
• Prior automotive controls experience in; ADAS systems, Chassis, Vehicle Dynamics, or Longitudinal Control preferred, though strong candidates with relevant control system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered
• Experience of safety critical systems and software, including standards such as ISO26262, IEC61508 or similar.
• Advanced driving permits.
• Proficiency in C and Python programming
• Experience with following software applications; Targetlink, CarMaker, Configuration Desk, MS Project.
