The role
As a Plant Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This role is core to the management of the submarine docks, nuclear fuel handling and radioactive waste facilities that are being developed to enable both the refit of active submarines and the defuel of the UK's retired submarine fleet. The unique post offers experience into engineering, nuclear safety governance, facility management and also great opportunities for career advancement.

Day to day, you'll support the nuclear and radiological safety of operations around the facilities, interfacing with Production, Design and Technical teams to support the implementation of engineering, process controls and safety cases.

  • Be key in the management of control of work; site operations; plant maintenance; and routine facility demands.
  • Support projects designing and installing new engineering and infrastructure, essential in supporting future nuclear facilities capabilities.
  • Interface with operational teams and undertake health and safety walk downs, as well as dealing with defects with the facility or supporting equipment.
  • Responsible for implementing the nuclear safety case requirements to operate the nuclear dock and radioactive waste facilities over the next 20 years.
  • Crucial in enabling the successful and safe delivery of work packages on site, ensuring that all necessary controls are in place upon release of nuclear safety significant evolutions, such as docking a submarine.

This is a full time, permanent role where you will have the option to work onsite at Devonport Royal Dockyard or remotely 1-2 days per week.

Essential experience of the Plant Engineer:

  • Experience of working in a high hazard regulated or nuclear industry - desirable
  • Experience in team or stakeholder management - desirable
  • Experience of implementing risk assessments or safety cases - desirable

Qualifications for the Plant Engineer:

  • Relevant STEM degree or Equivalent Experience

The successful candidate must be a British National and able to achieve SC and NNPPI security clearance for this role.
