Do you want to work at the forefront of a unique technology that harvests atmospheric particles in space?
Do you want to help develop a groundbreaking technology that nobody else has created before?
Your role will be to invent novel components that we will launch and operate at very low Earth orbit and other planets of the Solar System in the future!
Role Info:
Power Electronics Engineer
Reading
£40,000 - £80,000
Product / Service: We developed the world's first and only air-breathing satellite propulsion; Currently working with global leaders of the Earth Observation market.
Your Skills: Knowledge and experience with power converters (DC/DC or DC/AC or resonant)
Who we are:
We are a venture-backed space company where we develop technologies that enable satellites to operate at very low Earth Orbits (VLEO). Our technologies allow satellites to fly at 200 km, 3-4 lower than conventional LEO, resulting in three times better image resolution for Earth observation, three times higher capacity for satellite internet, and ten times better weather imagery.
The Power Electronics Engineer Role:
Your main challenge is developing a highly efficient electrical subsystem for our propulsion system. The propulsion power and control unit (PPU) consists of several RF generators (Frequency in the range of 0.5-12 MHz and power above 150W), and DC high voltage power supplies (>2 kV, 0.5 A). Our propulsion system uses atmospheric particles (nitrogen and oxygen), which require more power for thrust generation than conventional propellant (xenon). This means we need you to create as efficient a subsystem as possible.
About You:
+ You should have an **aspiration to solve global problems**;
+ Your main task will be the development of high-performance electronic components and power supplies for our propulsion system. You will study, simulate, and implement the concepts that can increase power efficiency;
+ You need to have skills in power converters (DC/DC, DC/AC, resonant), component selection, HW prototyping, thermal/magnetics design, modulation techniques, and EMI/EMC;
+ Power converters (DC/DC, DC/AC, resonant), component selection, HW prototyping, thermal/magnetics design, modulation techniques, and EMI/EMC
+ Control system design for- power converters, drives, and power networks.
+ Experience in failure analysis and reliability testing
+ Knowledge of DC/DC converters (especially high voltage) and DC/AC inverters (0.5 -27.12 MHz and power > 100W)
+ SMPS design engineer with resonant topology design experience.
+ Previous space electronic development is desired but not essential.
+ B.Sc/M.Sc/PhD in Electronic Engineering Technology / Power electronics
Additionally, as an early-stage start-up, we need you to help grow our company with us - participate in the day-to-day operation and develop an R&D roadmap that you will execute as a part of our team.
