Job title: Principal Combat Systems Engineer - Support Engineering

Location: Broad Oak, Portsmouth, on site

Salary Up to £48,500 depending on skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Carry out leadership and management of the Ship Service Team as delegated by the Ship Service Manager
  • Triage and rectification of operational defects in a timely manner through ship visit or technical support to RN maintainers
  • Responding to technical queries, with support from colleagues or subcontractors as required
  • Plan and manage equipment modifications or upgrades and reporting on progress.
  • Managing maintenance on ships on board platforms

Your skills and experiences:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Experience in the systems domain, within a support environment.
  • Ability to operate in a large, complex multi-project environment
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word/Excel
  • Understanding of Configuration Control and baselines

DESIRABLE:

  • Previous team leader experience
  • Understanding and experience across the Engineering Lifecycle ideally with experience and a level of technical understanding regarding hardware aspects
  • Experience in defence or related industry
  • Experience integrating Combat Systems, or multiple years' experience working on them ideally with BAE Systems product knowledge e.g. CMS, Shared Infrastructure
  • Coordination of design, test and installation documentation

The Team:

You will play a key role in the JSS2 Programme currently being delivered within BAE Systems. As a Principal Engineer, you will be providing ship-facing front desk support to the in service RN Platforms, providing support to Operational Defects and maintaining Combat System availability across platforms such as the Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates and the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier programme.

You will report directly to the Ship Service Engineering Manager and will provide intermediate support to the JSS2 team. You will be responsible for supporting the completion of department objectives by organising and monitoring work process.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with a range both internal and external stakeholders in a fast paced and reactive role providing support to front line modern Naval Warships within the Combat Systems Environment.
