At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Principal EC&I Engineer at our Devonport, Rosyth or Bristol sites.

The role
As a Principal EC&I Engineer, you'll have the support of a team of talented electrical and electronic engineers, fostering a collaborative learning environment where best practices are shared and everyone can continuously develop their expertise.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to spearhead intricate electrical and electronic projects alongside a dynamic and engaging team. Every week brings fresh opportunities to apply your skills and tackle stimulating challenges that push your boundaries.

Day-to-day, you'll be responsible for the delivery of Electrical and Electronic aspects of marine system design, ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation. You'll also be responsible for:

  • Developing Electrical/Electronic engineering design solutions for a variety of different platforms across the full Engineering Lifecycle. This will include substantiating the integrity and performance of new system designs within their operating environments.
  • Providing electrical & electronic design support by preparing and checking design documentation, reviews, estimates and schedules, also, in support of tender responses requiring design input.
  • Supervising, planning and controlling work to time, cost and quality.
  • Producing and approving calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation and technical reports, in accordance with project requirements.

This role is full time 36 hours hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home. The role can be based at either our Bristol, Devonport or Rosyth sites.

Essential experience of the Principal EC&I Engineer

  • You will have a high level of developed knowledge as the role is directly accountable for design development and determining solutions to problems and issues within the specialist subject area. The ideal candidate will be a proven Principal Electrical/Electronic Design Engineer or Senior Engineer ready to take the next step with significant experience in overseeing projects and skilled in supporting and developing less experienced team members.
  • It would be beneficial if you have experience working on UK naval marine shipbuilding projects or defence related design experience, but this is not essential. Electrical & Electronics experience in other industries would be considered including facilities, Oil & Gas and Aviation
  • Experience of operating in a defence or high safety integrity environment
  • Proven experience of relevant industry standards
  • Experience of all phases of the engineering lifecycle and configuration control systems
