The role
As a Principal Human Factors Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Mission Systems enable our customers to deliver their mission, through our products and solutions, using intelligence and analysis and delivering critical communication services. Our aim is to be at the centre of our customers' modern digital backbone by connecting and delivering sensors, decision support, and air effectors across military and business domains.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Work directly with our design teams, both in-house and with our partners, to ensure that Human Factors is considering as early as possible in our solutions
  • Your responsibilities will also include working with our Human Factors Specialist to ensure that Human Factors is considered in training courses, maintenance, and other support activities.
  • Manage and deliver the dedicated Human Factors elements of projects and programmes that we see you collaborate with other areas of the business.
  • Lead and guide more junior Human Factors Engineers and as a Chartered Professional registered with the Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, providing assurance of analysis activities and deliverables conducted by others.

This role is full time at 37 hours per week and will be worked on a primarily remote basis however, flexibility will be required in order to attend your local Babcock hub or one of our Customer Sites.

Essential experience of the Principal Human Factors Engineer

  • You will require a broad knowledge of Ergonomics and Human Factors engineering and a track record of delivering HF programmes,
  • You will have a portfolio of previous experience where you have influenced designs.
  • Advise on appropriate methodologies and approaches to enable requirements to be satisfied. Develop solutions for clients, showing how needs will be met.
  • Apply Human Factors Integration to Defence engineering projects. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to justify your engineering decisions and considerations.
  • A critical thinker - who can understand complex issues (balancing the detail and the big picture), and the judgement to make good decisions and have a positive impact.

Qualifictions for the Principal Human Factors Engineer

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
