The role

As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will create significant value by leveraging your skills and experience to lead yourself and others in the generation of outstanding new build and in-service design solutions.

Day to day, you'll provide authoritative recommendations for design intent maintenance and update and ensure engineering and safety risks are communicated and managed appropriately. Through consideration of specifications, standards, legislation and knowledge, you'll apply appropriate governance to Technical Authority (TA) outputs. You'll provide direction and guidance within the TA and Technical Services (TS) team supporting Mechanical & Constructive TA outputs and liaise with the Programme Manager and TS team to develop plans for the through life maintenance and update of Systems & Equipment design intent.

* Effective management of multi discipline teams to ensure timely & efficient delivery of engineering work to meet customer agreed scope
* Produce, review, verify and approve outputs including: calculations, analyses, technical reports, technical specifications and method statements
* Ensure that adequate review, verification and approval is undertaken on all their deliverables and for those under their direct control and supervision
* Ensure project and technical audits and review are planned & executed in order to impart learning and experience as appropriate and in line with agreed standards


Essential experience of the Principal Mechanical Engineer

* Experienced in computer aided design using Siemens NX or equivalent,
* Experienced in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and configuration control and have experience in PLM tools
Experienced in design for manufacture, ideally including additive manufacturing techniques

Qualifications for the Principal Mechanical Engineer

* Qualified in a relevant technical degree,
* A member of a professional institution with which you hold Chartered or Incorporated status

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role.
