This role provides a provides a technically challenging and rewarding opportunity to work in a modern defence manufacturing environment, providing essential and decisive military capability to our UK customer and their allies.

Salary: Circa £50,000.00 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4-5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

This opportunity is for a Lead Test Engineer with a strong technical bias to join the Circuit Card Assembly Business Unit in Manufacturing UK, supporting testing and diagnostics of circuit cards and electronics in manufacture.

  • Management of a small team (approximately 5 test engineers), including deployment of engineers to appropriate tasks and prioritisation.
  • Responsibility for the development of the team and their performance including conducting performance and development review discussions.
  • Driving the team to deliver in line with all programme and quality requirements, whilst building the capability of the CCA Business Unit's test capabilities through continuous improvement.
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the team to ensure programme targets are met to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Providing support and guidance to the Test Engineering team to ensure the right test capabilities are available for future projects in production.
  • Representative at key stakeholder meetings to report progress of Test Engineering actions and align the team with programme priorities.
  • Liaising with Test Equipment Design, Production Design Support, and the Prime Design Teams/Test Architects to support delivery of future test capabilities and support of current solutions.
  • Leading defect investigations down to component level on a wide variety of analogue, digital and RF based CCAs.
  • Providing technical input to the NCRB (Non-Conformance Review Board) in order to improve test yields.
  • Ensuring configuration management of test related documentation is in line with company processes.

You will be working with a small team of dedicated engineers in a fast-paced but friendly and inclusive manufacturing environment. The team has a great mix of personnel ranging from apprentices and graduate engineers through to experienced technical practitioners, all striving to deliver technical excellence across a number of different products in development and production.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Minimum HNC level of qualification or equivalent (ideally HND/degree) in a relevant subject.
  • A good understanding of analogue and digital electronics and associated failure diagnosis techniques is essential.
  • Experience in engaging with and presenting technical information to a wide range of stakeholders at multiple (including senior) levels of an organisation.
  • Experience of managing a small team of technical professionals in a multi-functional delivery orientated organisation.
  • The ability to plan and organise the team's work in order to ensure multiple tasks can be prioritised and delivered against Project objectives.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including generation of test specifications, operator instructions and technical reports based on higher-level requirements, using Microsoft Office applications.
