WHAT TO EXPECT
 The Virtual Manufacturing team is a core function within ME.  It is responsible for analysing product and process design & feasibility through the use of virtual manufacturing toolsets and methods, supporting the optimisation of the process, tooling and facility from concept through to delivery. The Virtual Manufacturing model develops alongside process planning and product development, in-line with PCDS timing, resulting in a complete working 3D production facility, prior to installation and launch.  Working in collaboration with ME Process, Facilities, Dimensional Control, Simultaneous Engineering partners and Product Engineering, using best in class tools and processes to drive a right first time process and facility.  This activity supports manufacturing targets for cost, quality, safety, Bill of Process compliance, equipment utilisation, maintenance and re-use.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Virtual Series

  • Product & Process Compatibility – Manufacturing feasibility assessments, aligned to engineering gateway releases, plus running change proposals.  Target zero compatibility issues at FDJ – status to be fed into Process Chain and Manufacturing Gateway Reviews.
  • Product & Process Change Evaluation – Cost and feasibility studies in support of engineering change proposals
  • Simultaneous Engineering
  • Virtual Buy-Off – Validate Vendor process and simulations for adherence to JLR simulation standards and deliverables and ensure robust, feasible and value for money engineering solutions are validated through the virtual series phase
  • Ergonomic Feasibility -Ensure all processes conform to JLR EAT Standards, drive all tools and equipment to provide best possible conditions for operator
  • Commodity Equipment Management – Manage equipment design selection, validation and procurement process. Manage library of designs and track usage, order approval and delivery status.  
  • Robot Management & Application Sign-Off – Manage robot selection, validation and procurement process, including design stage application sign-off
  • Team Management- Manage team of onshore and offshore resource to ensure all simulation requirements are met within time frame defined by PCDS
  • Value for money

 

Launch

  • Process Confirmation & Virtual Commissioning – Validate process sequence and cycle time prior to physical installation and commissioning 
  • Virtual / Physical Validation – Validate alignment of physical installation against design intent condition.  Ensure correct process sequence and facility layout.
  • Product & Process Change Evaluation – Cost and feasibility studies in support of post-FDJ engineering.
  • Value for money

 

Data Management

  • Data Release – Manage engineering data release process for ME and associated suppliers
  • Data Exchange – Manage data exchange between JLR and suppliers (equipment and tooling CAD, simulation data, documentation). Manage storage and sharing of data with change control.
  • Change Management – Support engineering change monitoring and reporting for programme teams
  • Library Management – Manage JLR and commodity equipment CAD libraries, aligned with agreed PPL’s and standards
  • Report to relevant project and escalation meetings.
  • Standards and Methods development and management
