Job Description

IED have a permanent vacancy for the Product Engineering Unit Head

As the Product Engineering Unit Head, you will be accountable to the Divisional Director (DD) for the efficient running of the Unit.

The Product Engineering Unit (PEU) focus is to provide engineering leadership and design activities to programmes realising engineering installations and functional assemblies. PEU provides the people resource over the full project life cycle from concept through design and installation to commissioning.

For existing assets, PEDU may also undertake modifications and in-service failure assessments.  The Unit develops the technical configuration of products including design and analysis effort input as well as defining the installation, maintenance and commissioning activities during latter project stages.

As the Product Engineering Unit Head, you will take the lead in projects and contracts as requested by the DD. You will be required to actively review leaver information and address issues on retention to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained with varying levels of experience.

You will also develop and optimise engineering delivery workflows, be instrumental in improving the way engineering definition matures through lifecycle, steering programmes towards execution strategies that utilise external engineering capability in an optimal way.

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required

- Engineering degree
- Fellow of relevant Professional Institute or working towards it
- A track record of delivering high technology science or technology projects to time, budget, safety and quality
- A track record of specifying, commissioning and managing design work from 3rd party organisations.
- Broad and deep understanding of design and related engineering processes, practices, current standards and industry best-practice
- Experience of delivering 3D design solutions
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and develop organisations
- Good background knowledge and understanding of fusion science, technology and engineering
- Strategic and innovative thinker
- Excellent influencing and collaboration skills
- Commercially astute
- Familiarity with modern standards in the areas of Safety, Health and Environment, and Quality Assurance
