About the job

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Aerodynamic Systems group at Jaguar Land Rover is a specialist centre within the Vehicle Efficiency department that covers aerodynamics, aeroacoustics and water and dirt management. We work with exterior design and engineering functions to deliver the right balance of attributes for our products and customers.

The acoustics group is recruiting for a project engineer to take responsibility for delivering the wind noise requirements for all Jaguar Land Rover vehicles. It's a fantastically diverse role and would be of interest to engineers with a variety of backgrounds including aerodynamics, NVH, sealing development and of course, aeroacoustics. If you're looking for a role that combines physical development, detail design, simulation and assessing real cars, this could be for you.

This role covers all aspects of wind noise, including form noise development, defining specifications for attenuation materials, and static and dynamic vehicle sealing. You will be involved from early concept development, through the prototype build and test phase and into manufacturing and launch. You will get to use a range of development techniques, including virtual simulation using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and SEA (statistical energy analysis), and physical testing which includes full-scale aeroacoustic windtunnel testing (using the FKFS wind tunnel in Stuttgart) and road & track based drive assessments.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Plan and support full-scale wind tunnel testing abroad and other development activites/drives in the UK
  • Work with Design and Engineering to balance  aerodynamic, aeroacoustic and water/dirt management attributes within the aerodynamics group
  • Run virtual simulations to predict attribute performance of early design surfaces and use this to guide the design of future Jaguar Land Rover vehicle lines
  • Deliver technical recommendations and reports in support of vehicle programmes and ensure all technical issues are identified, tracked and resolved

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Desirable

  • Experience in aerodynamic development, including testing in wind tunnels
  • Experience with aerodynamics CFD or acoustic CAE virtual methods
  • Experience in acoustic development and measurement
  • Experience in vehicle testing and assessment
  • Experience in automotive component development
