JLR is leading the automotive manufacturing that is dedicated to delivering cutting edge vehicles that shape the future of transportation. We’re seeking a talented Build Engineer to join our dynamic team within the Powertrain operations and Product Engineering sector, to help support in our objective of achieving ‘timely, quality’ product releases through supporting the overall powertrain 'cycle plan’.

 

As a Build Engineer at JLR, you will play a pivotal role in our manufacturing process by overseeing the assembly and testing of automotive components and systems, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of build projects.

 

The role will have 2 main responsibilities:
  

  • Technical and support to the engine & electric drive unit build associated engineering teams.
  • Support to build Supervisor for build engineering activity relating to engines and electric drive unit’s including new builds, conversions, re-works and tear downs.

 

Your key interaction will be with the build teams, engineering and component owners and the build supervisors. Ensuring all build items are hastened and chased for rapid resolution of disruptions, making sure productive workflow is building up and instrumenting engines and electric drive unites are delivering capability to the Prototype Engine Test Team.

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

You will need to set and apply in conjunction with the Lead build Engineer, working collaboratively to fulfil and meet objectives set out via policy deployment, performance review process and competency assessment. Provision of technical support to the team shall be required in order to meet and exceed output targets. This shall include provision of plans, information, material, instruction and parts.

As part of this role, you will represent the build engineering team at all bill of material validation sessions within powertrain, adding value where possible whilst making sure all route issues / concerns are actioned accordingly.

 

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

 

  • Support Powertrain engineering requests for ‘Ad-Hoc’ work, supporting means of measuring, and reporting, this unplanned work.
  • Interrogate the master build plan when issued.  Identify which areas that are impacted by each build and ensure that these areas are fully aware of upcoming workload. 
  • Communicate any changes to in-flight programmes to wider EO10 teams.
  • Ensure availability of a suitable board of management and change management process, support trials of the process via paper build and emphasis build to enable operations and ensure Safety and Quality measures are met.
  • Support Prototype development for design verification and vehicles via deviation matrix and instrumentation brochure - ensure timely delivery of parts, information and Instruction to enable build.

 

Essential:

 

  • A Level 4 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline 
  • Proven experience and understanding of facilities, processes, equipment and leading technologies. 
  • Ability to accurately and concisely present complex technical ideas or project issues to a diverse audience 
  • Proven experience in a build process environment 
  • Technical expertise and experience of test facilities
