What to expect

 

A central role in JLR’s transformation into a skills-based company and the continued development of Electrified Propulsion systems. This role will help shape the future company strategy by providing expert knowledge in the field of CAE analysis delivery, specifically in the field Powertrain Systems Engineering (PTSE) commodities.

 

As the PTSE CAE Chapter Lead you will be responsible for the coaching, mentoring and career growth of a group of analysts and their allocation to Agile product squads.  You will ensure the successful validation of JLR Powertrain Units & Systems through the delivery of FEA & CFD analysis and virtual processes across Powertrain.

 

As part of your role, you will ensure delivery processes, analysis methods and virtual engineering tools are best in class and formalised, facilitating knowledge sharing and consistent delivery.  You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in the development of future Powertrain commodities and will be influential in the development of Powertrain design across programmes.  You will possess an excellent technical project delivery background, ability to develop and mentor individuals and teams and have a very strong understanding of CAE techniques and processes with particular focus on Powertrain systems such as cooling, fuels, and gas path. You will also be a mentor and advisor to PTSE commodity team agile squads staying aligned with EP group and domain.

 

 

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

  • Actively raising quality and consistency in Product Delivery to enable all customer squads to make and implement effective and timely engineering decisions.
  • Facilitation of Community building and knowledge sharing for the Chapter.
  • Build relationships with other EP CAE chapters and the wider business to identify and develop synergies and opportunities to improve.
  • Manage all aspects of people development within the group by the application of training, supervision, and coaching as necessary.
  • Responsible for the performance management of the team by setting (SMART) Objectives, conducting Check-ins and providing feedback as required.
  • Management of all recruitment/resource requirements within Chapter.
  • Support development of the offshore resource and working relationships as required
  • Undertake any other work as directed by the line manager in connection with the job as may be requested.

 

What you’ll need

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 Essential:

  • Extensive working knowledge and experience of CAE methodologies and virtual verification techniques.
  • Extensive experience of delivering engineering or analytical projects.
  • Understanding of mechanics of materials, statics and dynamics
  • Experience of fatigue, strength, abuse & thermo-mechanical attribute assessments related to Powertrain durability
  • Theoretical knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, the associated toolsets
  • Experience in proposing product modifications to improve design through analysis
  • Previous experience of leading CAE project teams
  • Excellent project management and planning skills
  • Excellent technical presentation skills to all grades
  • Track record of component/system level delivery using CAE to meet defined performance targets
  • Engineering Degree qualification or equivalent

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of industry standard CAE and CAD software e.g. Catia V5/V6, Abaqus, Altair Optistruct, Hypermesh/Hyperview, Siemens Star CCM+
  • Experience in Six Sigma problem solving
  • Ability to negotiate with external CAE teams from suppliers or 3rd party service providers
  • Understanding of optimisation principles
