The Opportunity
This role will play a big role within Quality Engineering and technical support to the manufacturing teams. You will need to work collaboratively with a number of different functions, including ME, PD, MPM and the manufacturing areas in the resolution of issues on projects and the tracking of resolution through to completion.
A key aspect of the role will be the ability to support driving a team to correctly identify the root cause of an issue and then install a robust countermeasure to ensure the same issue does not occur again. You would need to be able to understand the the tools of problem solving and apply them across a range of issues at the same time.
You will also be responsible for leading a team to drive continuous improvement within our production facilities, including warranty measures, Vehicle plant pulls/rectifications and machining PIST/PIPC, (Machining capability).
The role would report to the D within Quality Engineering.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop within the role as the Plant Quality capabilities grow and mature. This is a key position within the Plant Quality Operations leadership team and the scope of work will be varied and demanding.
Key Performance Indicators
• Safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, environment objectives and working processes for the areas within your control - managing IPS KPI’s and deliver improvement.
• Safety and zero harm indicators.
• 0 MIS, 3 MIS, 12 MIS warranty measures.
• Engine pulls and repairs.
• White alert management.
• Machining capability.
• Engine tear down management.
• Plant quality operation budget.
• Managing associate timecards accurately – No UUA’s.
• Kaizen / TIC participation in line with company targets.
• Other key metrics will be role specific and explained during procurement process.
• Support the production lines achieve key production metrics during volume production.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Be the primary interface for the Quality Engineering team in the resolution of issues derived from warranty analysis, VO plant customer concerns and internal quality.
• Develop a quality management process that delivers the level 1 scorecard targets for warranty and customer concerns by working with other departments to ensure current processes are adhered to and then develop these wherever necesary.
• Identify and address internal procedures that affect level 1 scorecard targets.
• Lead the development of the warranty tear down area to delivery efficiency improvements, (number of weekly teardowns) and the feedback of information into the central quality function to deliver IQM projects that resolves issues seen.
• Be the driver of accurate problem solving within the plant, drive the teams to follow the standard problem soving techniques and be able to challenge the teams openly, with integrity, to drive continuous improvement.
• Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
• Relevant previous experience of Manufacturing / Engineering processes, tools and techniques.
• Flexible approach to job responsibilities and working hours.
• Demonstrable ability to create and lead detailed and effective action plans.
• Demonstrate the ability to lead a team to solve complex problems and install effective countermeasures.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively – Verbal and written. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
Desirable:
• Knowledge of and involvement in the product development phase.
• Project management experience.
• Understanding of PCDS/IPS requirements & Lean Manufacturing.
• A good knowledge of CAD, PCDS, APQP, AIMs and other systems used in JLR would be of benefit.
• Ability to adapt to new production and testing technologies, i.e. Electrification (EDU).
