Job Description

Who are we looking for?


The RACE Electrical Systems Design Engineer is responsible for supporting project managers and technical leads with defining the electrical system requirements across a varied project portfolio: creating design specifications, generating layout designs, overseeing/creating detailed design drawings, developing commissioning schedules and delivering operational systems and equipment.


This is a self-sufficient role where you’ll use your engineering skills and experience to complete assigned work packages. You will also identify opportunities and methods to improve processes or the use of equipment and provide technical guidance and support to less experienced members of the team.  


What will you be responsible for?


- Producing electrical systems specifications for large complex remote handling and robotic systems.

- Designing across a very varied project portfolio.

- Designing for challenging requirements for cable management.

- Producing electrical equipment designs from specifications.

- Interpreting regulations and international requirements and standards.

- Preparing electrical schematics and BOMs for new prototype equipment and final radiation hardened equipment.

- Supports project managers and leads in preparing project bid documentation, estimating cost and timescales.

- Actively grows knowledge of technical developments in field.

- Producing high quality layout designs for equipment enclosures and panels from schematics.

- Assisting in the testing and commissioning of systems including ensuring compliance of - systems with both site and legislated safety requirements.

- Being an active part of an electrical lead, working to support the program lead and developing junior staff.


Qualifications

Essential Criteria and qualifications:


- Flexible working attitude with the ability to work as an individual or as a team member.

- Ability to interface with mechanical, mechatronic and control and software designs and systems.

- Understanding of governance, H&S and compliance issues.

- Ability to work in a cross-discipline team.

- Ability to work in a safety dominated working environment.

- Professionally registered or working towards suitable recognised framework.

- Engineering or technology HND/HNC or BEng with equivalent experience.

- Engineering design experience with manufacturing/manufacturability experience.

- Ability to interact efficiently with people in a variety of different situations.

- Experience of commissioning, problem solving and reverse engineering where appropriate.

- Able to produce high quality work to deadlines.
