About the job

Bristol

We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our Electro-Optical (EO) Seekers & Sensors Department within our Synthetic Scene Generation Team, working as a Scene Generation Modelling Engineer.

Job Title: Scene Generation Modelling Engineer

Salary: Circa £43,000 - £50,000 depending on experience

Location: Stevenage or Bristol (We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 3-4 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

As a team we are responsible for supporting MBDA's complex weapon programmes, working with our Customers and Suppliers towards developing and integrating the next generation EO missile seekers. In order to succeed, we require a high fidelity test & modelling environment; this provides our missile team with all the real-world data they need to undertake the product design, development and acceptance process.

And this is where you come in… If you are the successful applicant, we will offer you the exciting challenge of developing real-world simulations and modelling tools to support our product development.

We use a variety of different software development and modelling tools, alongside ongoing support to you and hands on training to get you up to speed as quick as possible. However, we are working to broaden our toolset, to adapt to the future programme needs; joining the team now offers the chance for you to tackle a new tool and start to learn it together, with the rest of the team, and taking the lead on it should you want.

Our team is a small, multi-disciplinary team that support a range of scene generation activities, from synthetic scene creation, through to hardware testing and validation via experimentation and field trials. Whilst your role focusses on the software aspects, you will always have the opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and experience in the broader team activities … and any additional knowledge and previous experience that you bring with you will certainly make a huge impact!

What we're looking for from you:

  • Someone who is enthusiastic about using software packages to model real world environments. We value the need to be adaptable in using different tools to create different features and effects, as well as being creative to work around a problem, finding innovative solutions to keep us on track.
  • The role is technically focussed, so will require you to have a good working-level knowledge in how to run modelling packages, with some coding experience also desirable. Noting again that we would expect to provide you with training on our specific toolsets.
  • In addition to the technical aspects of the role, we are also looking for you to value commitment and integrity in delivering on time – as well as to cost and quality – so experience in, or a good appreciation of task package management is also highly desirable. We work across different projects and departments, and so value strong team spirit, and communication skills.
