AWE is currently recruiting for multiple Scientific Photographers to join an off-site trials team who are tasked with the design, setup and firing of explosives trials at locations throughout the UK.

Are you a Photographer with a keen interest in capturing images of explosive trails? Would you like to learn how to operate high speed video equipment? Are you willing to work alongside our experienced engineers and scientists to deliver current and future explosive capabilities? Would you like the opportunity to work in AWE's unique Environmental Trials Delivery Unit? Then we have the perfect role for you! We would like someone who is an experienced photographer and would like to develop their skills into high-speed video applications.

Alternatively, we are seeking a high-speed video (HSV) technician who can be cross trained in photography. Depending on experience, this is an entry-level role where we expect a candidate to finish training in around a year to achieve a salary uplift.

Location: Reading (site based)

Package: £21,460-£30,000 per annum (depending on experience)

The Role?

Key responsibilities and accountabilities of a Scientific Photographer:

  • Scientific photography in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
  • Assisting with setup and fielding of high-speed video systems for hazardous and non-hazardous trials.
  • This job will involve travel to various and varied UK and overseas locations.
  • Post processing of generated trial imagery.
  • Interfacing with stakeholders to determine their trial requirements.

It would be desirable for you to have the following (not essential):

  • Experience working with and around explosives.
  • Experience with working in challenging environments (Poor weather, high winds, etc.)
  • Ideally has a related degree or is studying for a degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Experience in communicating independently with internal and external stakeholders.

You will need the following, to be considered:

  • To have a solid photography background, experience with photoshop.
  • Willingness to work in a multidisciplined team to deliver operational targets.
  • Willingness to work around explosive and radiological hazardous environments.
  • Must be willing to travel and spend extended periods away from home during the week.
  • Hold a Full UK driving License.
