The role
As a Senior Certification Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The Type-31 Project will deliver fie general purpose, global, adaptable and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec 2028.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for the management of the ship's Certification artefacts, whilst working closely with Engineering, Supply Chain and Project Management to ensure that the Systems and Ship meet their certification requirements.

  • Delivering the Certification Management Plan arrangements, developing and maintaining the plan as required.
  • Liaising closely with Supply Chain, Engineering and Commissioning delivery teams to ensure provision of all certification data.
  • Understanding and communicate progress through routine briefing, assessing the implication of risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Facilitate the Certification Steering Group, presenting Certification Management information, progress against plan, reviewing outcomes, issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Create and maintain certification KPIs both internally and with our external partners such as the MoD, Lloyds register, Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) and Naval Authority Group (NAG)

This role is full time at 37 hours per week worked Monday to Friday. The role is adaptable and can be based at various sites, including Rosyth, Fife or Devonport, Plymouth or Ashton House, Bristol sites. Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

Essential experience of the Senior Certification Enginee

  • Demonstrable experience working within the defence industry, preferably shipbuilding or Naval however, other regulated industries will be considered.
  • Previously worked within a similar certification role working with the Lloyds Register.
  • It would be advantageous if you have had exposure to working with Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) or Naval Authority Group (NAG).

Qualifications for the Senior Certification Engineer

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
