This role is to support a joint UK/French Radiographic and Hydrodynamics facility located 45 minutes from Dijon in France.

What will you be doing?

  • Demonstrating safe, effective and ethical working behaviours

  • Adhering to management system requirements for engineering activities

  • Delivery engineering tasks to schedule, budget and quality requirements

  • Maintaining and promoting high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player

  • Applying technical knowledge for design intent, as-built standards and system performance through life for engineered systems and structures

  • Interpreting and delivering the requirements of complex and high profile issued tasks from the Asset Engineering Solutions order book (including troubleshooting, quoting, reporting, design, commissioning and handover as required), and make evidence based professional engineering decisions to solve technical problems within area of responsibility

  • Leading and advising engineers within bounds of own specialism in the delivery of innovative solutions to complex engineering problems

  • Identifying and escalating business risk arising from condition of engineered systems and structures, and follow up on actions

  • Informing department or project engineering strategies

  • Engaging with company delivery and administrative requirements; report own and team progress honestly and clearly, communicate in an engaging manner, support performance management

  • Optimising the delivery of Operations Engineering

We'd love to hear from individuals with the following:

  • An HNC/Level 4 qualification with suitable additional experience to Incorporated Engineer equivalent level

  • The ability to lead engineering delivery across an equivalent manufacturing and/or research environment comprising a range of infrastructure facilities and associated manufacturing and/or research plant and equipment

  • The ability to lead delivery of facilities design engineering and maintenance services across the life of an asset

To be considered, you'll need the following:

  • Be willing to relocate to France and live within 1 hour of the Valduc site and be permanently located in France for up to 5 years

  • The ability to communicate in the French Language is essential for this role. Whilst training will be provided, if required, it should be recognised that significant personal commitment and self-study will be required to reach the required level. The candidate will need to reach DELF A2 ahead of deployment to work in the high hazard area

  • Operate in workplaces of substantial hazard (radiological, explosive, toxic)

  • Be comfortable with working in the defence industry in support of the UK nuclear deterrent

  • Undertake secondary roles for the UK Senior Technical operator in support of UK operations

  • Fit to wear a respirator and work in a radiation-controlled area

Please note: When first appointed in the role you will be based in the UK initially for a period of 6-9 months before being deployed to France. Once deployed to France you will follow the site standard 5 day working week, at the end of the assignment you will be re-deployed back to AWE in the UK.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
