Job Title: Senior Marine Technical Alignment Surveyor

Location: Portsmouth Naval Base with International and UK wide travel

Salary: Circa £45,000 commensurate with skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Conduct laser tracker dimensional inspections of high accuracy equipment interfaces
  • Complete estimates for alignment, dimensional inspection, laser scanning and reverse engineering tasks
  • Interrogate a multitude of information formats of varying detail to combine with expert alignment and installation knowledge to define task processes and criteria
  • Conduct laser scanning of the ships compartments, processing and combining with total station control files, orientating data into the ships co-ordinate system and deliver data to customer in suitable formats for overlay and combining with 3D CAD data
  • Responsible for training datum, ships heading, and weapons/radar foundations checks
  • Mentor and advise team members to help identify tasking requirements and subsequent use of equipment and software in a manner that quickly builds both competence and confidence
  • Conduct technical investigations, feasibility studies and development of installation processes to enable efficient evolution of tasking in line with project milestones
  • Conduct navigation light arrangement and arc checks, liaising with Stake Holders, correct out of tolerance arcs, compile full report highlighting any non-conformities to inform the decision on whether the ship is deemed safe to sail

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • A recognized time served apprenticeship
  • Extensive knowledge of ship structures and arrangements combined with a deep understanding of ships datum's and co-ordinate systems and how the relationships between systems define the functionality and accuracy of combat/mission systems equipment
  • In depth knowledge of combat and mission system physical interfaces and associated installations/alignment tolerances for a range of Royal Navy platforms
  • Deep understanding of practical/achievable levels of accuracy on Royal Navy vessels with regards to equipment, spatial and environmental constraints/factors that limit the absolute accuracy achievable
  • Excellent problem-solving skills allowing on site decision making to achieve accuracy levels required whilst taking due cognizance of project schedules, team resource availability and acceptance authority responsibilities

The BAE Systems Marine Survey & Alignment Team:

The BAE Systems Marine Survey/Alignment team provide a wide range of services to both PNB and worldwide on all platforms of the Navy's fleet. This role will provide the opportunity to carry out skilled operations such as Combat Systems Alignment, Laser Scanning Surveys, Laser Mapping Surveys, Laser Tracker Inspections, Quality Accuracy Dimensional Control and Reverse Engineering.

Travel will be involved both domestically and worldwide on a frequent basis and you will be required to be the lead specialist on a project and manage/coordinate the input of your team of specialists to provide advice and guidance to others.#
