Our client, Caldera, are on a mission to decarbonise heat. Their technology soaks up clean energy, storing it efficiently to provide industrial heat on demand. They have over 10 years of experience in the industry and have climate change as their key motivator for their work.

Caldera is now seeking a Senior Mechanical Process Engineer to join their friendly and innovative team and to help them build a first-of-a-kind demonstrator at their HQ prior to a global roll out. The successful candidate will be based either in their London or Fareham offices and will have responsibility for developing the steam engineering designs. Collaboration with colleagues will ensure the products meet safety standards and will be produced at a low cost and high quality.

Senior Mechanical Process Engineer, the role:

  • Leading the design and development of the steam generation aspects of the systems
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure the steam system integrates with other systems
  • Ensuring the design meets regulatory requirements
  • Conducting engineering analyses, including thermal and structural calculations
  • Managing an external consultancy to design a small steam network on their site
  • Writing technical and non-technical documents
  • Visiting customers and suppliers
  • Supporting installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting

Senior Mechanical Process Engineer, the person:

  • Previous experience working as a mechanical engineer
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical engineering through a relevant qualification
  • Experience working with steam at tonnes per hours and at pressures of 10 bar
  • Familiarity with working with PER, PSSR and other relevant industry standards
  • Thorough understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer principles
  • Passion for sustainability

Desirable:

  • Good knowledge of boiler control, process heater and furnace control and steels
  • Experience in electrical or electronic engineering
  • Familiarity of SolidWorks
  • Language skills or working internationally
  • Data analysis skills (e.g. R or Python)
  • Commercial acumen and cost sensitivity

This is a permanent position with the option between 24 - 40 hours a week.
