Job Title: Senior Naval Architect
Location: UK - Remote, Hybrid or any QinetiQ site
Package: Highly Competitive Salary + Benefits Package
Role Type: Full time
Role ID: SF15676

QinetiQ's Naval Architecture team delivers consultancy services to the MOD as well as international defence and commercial customers. Hydrodynamic problem solving is a significant part of the project work - identifying a methodology for solving a client's issues, mathematically or through model testing. The focus of the team is in the surface ship and submarine hydrodynamic subject area including propulsors and propellers, manoeuvring and control, dynamic and quasi-static stability, seakeeping, resistance and propulsion. The wider group also includes design and assessment of structures and Maritime Life Support.

The role
This opportunity is for a Senior Naval Architect to join our technical team. The primary focus of the job will be the delivery of technical projects relating to submarine manoeuvring and control. However, there will be opportunities to get involved in other aspects of technical delivery as well.

  1. To provide effective leadership and coordination of the engineering and technical activities to deliver programmes of work. Use an excellent understanding of Naval Architecture principles and sound engineering judgement to solve problems. Breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work. Work with the Project Management community to task and control work conducted by technical teams. Through example, demonstrate the expected QinetiQ values and behaviours.
  2. Use your skills and knowledge to develop the capabilities in the areas you are working in. Mentor others to improve the knowledge of your areas of expertise within the wider engineering and technical community.
  3. Internal Collaboration. Actively participate and encourage increased collaboration across the Group and wider technical teams. Work with other functions (e.g. Technical Excellence; Safety Engineering) to deliver the technical programme of work such that it complies with statutory, regulatory and company specific processes and procedures.
  4. External Collaboration. Able to give technical presentations and talk knowledgably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings. Work with partner organisations and other parties to expand and improve the work that QinetiQ delivers including supporting the Business Development and Sales strategy.
  5. Ensure the work is conducted in a safe manner, highlighting hazards and potentially unsafe practices.
  6. Ensure that Governance is applied consistently across the technical programmes where you are involved. Act as a peer or independent reviewer for other projects or programmes of work where suitable.
