The role
As a Senior Nuclear Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll play a crucial role as a member of the Nuclear Engineering Branch (NEB), ensuring that all nuclear processes and procedures are carried out in accordance with quality, health and safety, cost and in line with the programme.

Day-to-day, you'll form part of the NEB which offers direct support to Submarine Production and Commissioning teams during nuclear submarine maintenance and defect repair projects to enable nuclear Implicated work to be conducted safely and in accordance with the relevant plant safety case and facility safety cases.

  • You will be responsible for the production and amendment of nuclear procedures and supporting documentation for subsequent approval by the relevant submarine procedure authorisation group.
  • Ensuring that the necessary documentation for conducting nuclear repairs and maintenance in the form of detailed step by step maintenance, repair, testing, or operational procedures are produced in accordance with relevant project plans.
  • Ensuring documentation must meet quality and safety case requirements, as defined in the relevant Administration Control Document (ACD). This will Include the maintenance and repair documentation ensuring that the design intent of submarine systems and equipment is maintained along with the through life availability.
  • Review of NEB process maps and supporting documentation, ensuring that they are up to date and any feedback is actioned in a timely manner.
  • Providing functional oversight assurance, through the conduct of in process review and verification checks of in-force authorisation group procedures

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Senior Nuclear Engineer

  • Previous experience within a naval or civil nuclear environment or equivalent engineering experience
  • A good understanding of the nuclear reactor plant systems and their safe operation.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and testing of nuclear or marine or other engineering disciplines.
  • An understanding of health and safety, quality assurance systems and the ALARP principle, including safe systems of work for maintenance and testing of electrical and mechanical systems. - Desirable

Qualifications for the Senior Nuclear Engineer

  • BTEC level 3 Engineering Mechanical/Electrical preferred or Higher National Certificate or equivalent experience

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
