The role
As a Senior Plant Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This role will allow Babcock to support the MOD Nuclear Submarine provision by ensuring they have safe and nuclear compliant facilities and appropriately managing the radiological inventory.

Day to day, you'll be key in supporting the nuclear and radiological safety of operations around the facilities and interfaces with the production, design and technical teams to support implementation of engineering, process controls and safety cases.

  • Management of control of work, site operations, plant maintenance and routine facility demands.
  • You will have the opportunity to support projects, designing and installing new engineering and infrastructure, essential in supporting future nuclear facilities capabilities.
  • Interfacing with operational teams and undertake health and safety walk downs, as well as dealing with defects with the facility or supporting equipment.
  • Responsible for implementing the nuclear safety case requirements to operate the nuclear dock and facilities.
  • Enabling the successful and safe delivery of work packages on site, ensuring that all necessary controls are in place upon release of nuclear safety significant evolutions, such as docking a submarine.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home, based at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Senior Plant Engineer

  • Ideally will have Safety Case experience within high-hazardous industries (ideally Nuclear facility industry, RAD-Waste, hazardous waste etc)
  • Experience of managing work in high hazard industries
  • Experience in team or stakeholder management
  • Experience of implementing risk assessments or safety cases

Qualifications for the Senior Plant Engineer

  • Relevant STEM degree - Desirable

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
