The role
As a Senior Safety Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join the T26 Global Combat Ship Support Engineering Team to get involved in the delivery of The Royal Navy's latest complex warship.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Assist the Class Cell to establish interfacing Transition Working Groups
  • Work with Warship Support to establish the Type 26 PA and Class Cell within Common Support Model (CSM) Governance
  • Provide Safety technical support to the Transition programme and when in service, contributing to engineering studies, reports, and proposals with the aim of improving the safety and availability of key systems and equipment.
  • Work with the Class Cell to transfer all Safety artefacts, which include Maintenance & Design Management contracted support products and information from the Acquisition team to the In Service Support team.
  • Investigate, prepare and produce authoritative bodies of evidence for capability or sustainment changes to the vessels.

This role is full-time, 36 hours per week and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.

Essential experience of the Senior Safety Engineer:

  • Knowledge and experience on implementation of Safety and Environmental codes and practices in a marine environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of marine systems.
  • Experience in technical problem solving and restoration of design intent.
  • Experience in applying safety considerations to fault diagnosis on systems, equipment, and components, to aid proposal of repair plans including maintenance improvements
  • An excellent communicator both verbally and written, you will be required to articulate complicated arguments to a wide range of stakeholders, and be able to write concise technically accurate reports, papers and bid responses.

Qualifications for the Senior Safety Engineer:

  • Preferably degree qualified in an engineering or science discipline or extensive demonstrable experience.
  • Professionally registered Engineer, IEng or CEng with an approved engineering institution is highly desirable. If you are not professionally registered, and you can prove your competence via experience, please still apply and this will be assessed.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
