Summary
The Senior Tunnel Surveyor reports to the Tunnel Survey Manager and the Tunnel/ TBM Manager.
Main Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day management of TBM and cross passage shift surveyors.
- Undertake the post processing of survey data, including the reduction of sets of angles, Star*net processing and wriggle survey data.
- Provide technical expertise for the TBM guidance systems when required
- Processing the TBM Guidance System survey window traverse measurements and calculate the updated coordinate values for the guiding brackets.
- Overseeing the primary and secondary tunnel control network and ensuring it adheres to the SCS tunnel survey control methodology procedure.
- Ensure the shift surveyors have accurate and the latest control network coordinates for undertaking daily quick check TBM guidance updates.
- Oversee and manage the survey requirements for cross passage construction, including survey control, as-builts and convergence monitoring.
- Implementation and assignment of the Tunnel Shift Surveyor schedule and roster to sufficiently cover the works activities. Ensure that staff are not exceeding shift limits and receiving sufficient rest periods in line with H&S and SCS guidelines
- Carry out wriggle surveys and compare processed data with current output from the guiding system. Provide continues as-built record on temporary and permanent work. Highlight any out of tolerance or anomalies to the Tunnel survey manager
- Prepare and support gyro check surveys
- Provide full briefing on survey documentation (RAMS, TASK briefing sheet) to new starter or visitor. The senior surveyor will make sure that the site procedure and safety regulation are followed by every person involved in their activity.
- Manage tunnel bracket production, survey equipment stock and delivery
- Manage the survey instrument register, survey collection, delivery and resolve instrument issues. Making sure all instrument checks are being carried out and all calibration certificates are valid.
- Provide tunnel survey representation for the daily SRG meetings and ensure all survey data and reports is collected in a timely manner before the meetings.
- Provide cooperation and assistance to the site engineering team where required.
Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Surveying, Geomatics or closely related discipline
- Proven experience in a tunnel environment, preferable in SCL and TBM tunnelling.
- Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately
- Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicate outcomes
- Strong work ethic with flexibility to work a shift pattern and unsociable hours/nights
