Rural Arisings Ltd.'s (Est 2002), area of expertise is in delivering environmental enhancements to under-utilised land. We specialise in the remediation of environmentally degraded sites, by re-using the waste soils generated from construction projects and use these to create natural green spaces for wildlife and for people to enjoy. We also work to deliver land-based solutions for landowners in the agricultural, and other sectors.

Job Summary

Rural Arisings is seeking a Site Engineer to join its team in Cranleigh, Surrey.

The individual will play a critical role in helping deliver this complex remediation project. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in this site-based role.

The position is best suited to someone who enjoys working outside throughout the year, as there will be around a 70:30 split of outdoor to indoor working. Being a good communicator is vital for this role, as you will be interacting with a wide range of people including contractors and the public.

Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks (both engineering and environmental) where you will have the opportunity to build a vast base of knowledge, and skills related to creating environmental improvements and green spaces.

Job Responsibilities

  • Management of construction and earthworks activities.
  • Verification and recording of the placement of imported soil materials against our acceptance criteria.
  • Setting out and surveying with a range of surveying equipment.
  • Installation of drainage layer fabrics, open swales and drainage pipes.
  • Soil sampling and other environmental testing for verification.
  • Preparation of drawings and documents to satisfy regulatory obligations.
  • Assist with design activities and the management of specialist sub-consultants.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Candidate Requirements

Our ideal candidate would be motivated by a passion for the environment, engineering, sustainability, or waste management. We're looking for someone who:

  • 2-3yrs post education industry experience (site based or not)
  • Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering (or a related field) with an interest in environmental improvements, geology, hydrology and/or hydrogeology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good observation skills, and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Confident in using software and technology and has experience using software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD (optional) and Trimble Business Centre (optional),
  • Holds a full driving license and has the right to work in the UK,
