THE OPPORTUNITY 

We are searching for a Site Reliability Engineer with a passion for quality, and proven experience of cloud infrastructure, software engineering and SRE practices, is required for a variety of digital projects which Jaguar Land Rover are delivering in Manchester. We are looking for a great engineer who has a passion for innovative problem solving, quality-first coding and DevOps/SRE practices 

You will form part of a collaborative, iterative and agile process in a multi-disciplined team helping deliver best in class digital solutions. This role provides a unique opportunity to help support and grow the software engineering and DevOps capability within Jaguar Land Rover. 

The position requires a background in software systems engineering, The SRE strives to support the operations of the software development life cycle process in order to proactively identify gaps that exist in the pathway to production. Within this role you will have a chance to learn new technologies and the ability to work closely with a diverse Global Engineering team across Jaguar Land Rover.  

WHAT TO EXPECT 

You will work as part of a Global Site Reliability Engineering squad to ensure applications are effectively supported and monitored and that manual work is minimised. Furthermore, you will review deployment and operational environments, troubleshoot issues and managing technical operations whilst working with product teams to ensure systems are secure, scalable and reliable. 

The role will be supporting the development of internal and external application projects for the organisation in a cloud-native environment. There will be a blend between maintaining AWS platforms with Kubernetes and Docker and working on cutting edge future developments within critical areas of the business and collaboration with development teams to help build in reliability and automation. 

You will work on real projects alongside experienced engineers and with constant opportunities to learn and build your new site reliability career and be a part of part of a collaborative, iterative and agile process in a multi-disciplined team helping deliver best in class digital solutions. 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED 

You will have technical knowledge with hands-on practical experience with Unix OS and ideally recent experience in container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc) and a scripting language Java, Spring Boot or another OO language. In addition, you will have knowledge and involvement with cloud technologies like AWS and Terraform experience. 

We are keen to speak to people who also have the following skills: 

  • Experience of practices such as Test-Driven Development and Pair Programming 
  • Experience with modern CI/CD tools and techniques 
  • Experience with source code management and version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab) 
  • Previous involvement in all stages of the software delivery lifecycle 
  • Understanding of networking concepts, technologies, and protocols (TCP/IP, IPSec, HTTP, FTP, DHCP, and DNS) 
  • Experience in operational monitoring and dash-boarding for applications (ELK, SonarQube, Prometheus, Grafana) 
  • Knowledge of Microservices architectures, RESTful APIs and message queues 
  • Experience operating bespoke built enterprise scale cloud-native microservice applications 
  • Experience with database technologies such as MySQL or NoSQL technologies (e.g. MongoDB) 
  • Previous experience of Site Reliability Engineering practices
