We are currently looking for a capable, adaptable and inquisitive software engineer who can lead a small support team (of three) to maintain our in-service missile-system middleware solutions!

Job Title: Software Product Support Lead

Salary: Circa £50,000 to £70,000 depending on experience 

Location: Bristol (we may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4 days per week in the office as a minimum is required, due to the secure classification of the work.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

We're a driven team with a passion for software and its successful deployment in battlespace Command and Control (C2) weapon systems. We work on technology that is at the forefront of European missile system design, delivering safe, secure, and reliable products to our customers.

Debugging and engineering investigation is a big part of the job, as the software is complex and we require someone with an inquisitive nature to be able to investigate issues and discuss solutions with our customers.

Our products require Linux Operating System (OS) configuration, support and security solution maintenance, so experience of Linux is necessary for this position. You will be working across multiple applications on both land and maritime projects in the systems software department, this role allows for involvement in many of the most advanced missile systems in the world, across multiple warfare domains.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Experience with C or C++ (at least one of these is essential), Ada, and/or JavaScript, shell scripting languages with a solid background in software engineering.

  • Some team leading experience would be beneficial, but this would primarily be a technical role whilst also supporting the Software Project Leader with management activities.

  • Experience configuring and maintaining Linux OSs (Redhat and/or Ubuntu) including Kernel configuration and Kernel test.

  • A passion for software engineering, with the ability to innovate and think critically to solve complex software problems with a willingness to develop software skillsets either through on the job, or formal training.

  • Comfortable working with a team in a collaborative environment, communicating and contributing to resolve emerging issues.

  • Experience in the development of software for Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) hardware and be comfortable working with target system hardware.
