The role

As the Submarine Combat Systems Engineer Lead, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Focused on the future support requirements of the Royal Navy's next generation combat systems, to ensure Babcock applies its unrivalled in-service support experience to new designs and prepares its capabilities for the ever-increasing complexity of these systems. Your main areas of focus will include the Dreadnought Class and its transition into service and the newly announced SSN AUKUS design.

Day to day, you'll provide proactive technical support to our customer, working collaboratively with other stakeholders across Babcock, the MoD, Royal Navy and industry. You'll be trusted to investigate, develop and offer technical recommendations on real engineering challenges to our customer and to the benefit of all stakeholders where you'll be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of outputs, from understanding requirements, to ensuring appropriate review and acceptance, using domain knowledge to influence the design of future submarines, maximising ease of support in service and integration activities.

  • Be the CSET Future Submarine Lead.
  • Analyse the future submarine requirements and determine how Babcock can best meet them.
  • Provide submarine combat systems Subject Matter Expertise.
  • Provide proactive technical support to our customer.

Essential experience of the Submarine Combat Systems Engineer Lead

  • Experience of Submarine Combat Systems from an operational engineering perspective.
  • Experience and knowledge of the MoD organisation and procurement processes.
  • Experience of working in a regulated industry with a wide and diverse stakeholder group is also essential.

This is a full-time role working 36 hours per week. We offer flexible working to give people more options to better integrate their work and personal life, whilst ensuring that business needs are met. In your role as Combat Systems Future Submarines Lead there is a requirement to attend one of our local Hubs a minimum of 2 days per week.

Qualifications for the Submarine Combat Systems Engineer Lead

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering-based discipline or HND with significant demonstrable experience.
  • Member of relevant professional engineering bodies or in the process of applying.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance level for this role and must be sole British National with 5 years residency within the UK.
