The role
As a Systems Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Babcock Mission Systems is growing, and we need you to support us delivering key engineering services to the MoD and Partners Across Government (PAG) for various communications, Signals Intelligence (SIGNIT), Situation Awareness (SA) and projects in CEMA Maritime.

Day to day, you'll support Mission Systems in delivering the next generation of Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) Radio Frequency (RF) Communications solutions for a variety of national and international customers.

  • Lead and manage design solutions, maturing system architecture, product design and producing contract engineering deliverables
  • Own and direct interfaces and trade-offs between systems, sub systems and functions
  • Lead the technical solutions in response to customer requirements, from concepts through to in-life support
  • Develop, build, test and trial solutions
  • Create high quality design documentation

This role is full time and permanent, 37 hours per week and will be based at our Ashton Vale site in Bristol or at HMNB Devonport, with hybrid working from home arrangements. There is a requirement for attending face-to-face meetings and/or delivering business across a range of internal and customer sites.

Essential experience of the Systems Engineer:

We're looking for someone experienced within the systems discipline who has the gravitas to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Happy to undertake the technical management of internal and external sub-contractors
  • Hold the ability and drive to think with a systems perspective as defined by INCOSE.
  • Ability to create and manage interfaces, specifications and certificates, producing boundary views and identifying ownership across the System of Interest (SoI), Wider Systems of Interest (WSoI) and its environment.
  • Engineering expertise across the engineering lifecycle V-Model from initial concepts, requirements, design, implementation, integration, verification, validation, maintenance and supportability
  • System concepts and lifecycle selection.
  • System capability issues.
  • Enterprise and technology environment.
  • Architectural design.
  • Concept generation.
  • Functional analysis.

Experience within any of the following areas would be highly beneficial

  • RF Communications, specifically High Frequency (HF) Radio Systems
  • Military Data Communications, Networks & security
  • Platforms and storage
  • Hardware & Software Integration
  • Requirements, Validation & Verification


Qualifications for the Systems Engineer:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Telecommunications or Electronic Engineering however, we value difference and don't have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience then we would like to hear from you.

Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
