Job Description
Who are we looking for?
As a member of the UKAEA Technical Configuration Management Team, the purpose of this role is to support the development and implementation of technical configuration management processes and tools and to lead and provide technical configuration support to the UKAEA programme and project areas as required.
The Technical Configuration Controller is expected to work under their own initiative but, in addition, be part of the core UKAEA Technical Configuration Management team that will provide support to programmes and projects across a growing and diverse portfolio.
What will you be responsible for?
The UKAEA currently implements Technical Configuration Management generally in accordance with BS ISO 10007:2003 across selected areas of the business in order to facilitate a structured and managed approach to product lifecycle management and its associated product information.
The UKAEA wishes to expand and develop wider application of configuration management across existing and expanding areas of the business with a vision to leading and supporting both scientific and commercial ventures.
Key duties would typically include:
- Establish, author and manage UKAEA product configuration structures
- Use the UKAEA PLM SmarTeam system for generating Configurable Items and Design Solutions
- Lead users in the development of Configuration Identification to ensure products and systems are broken down in an appropriate manner
- Lead users in the correct use of configuration structures in particular areas of product design and development
- Lead users with interfacing with suppliers/contractors in defining the configuration management requirements and associated document deliverables
- Create PLM placeholders for the technical product documents required to define each configurable item within both functional and product structures to enable tracking of product and project maturity

Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competence required
Proven track record applying and adhering to defined product development, design and engineering processes undertaken within a design environment
Significant experience working with complex industrial or manufacturing facilities and plant
Sound knowledge and application experience of PLM and design data management techniques
Fluent in written and spoken English language
Appropriate technical qualifications (degree or equivalent applied experience)
Desirable skills, experience and competence
Experience and knowledge of using CAD packages in particular CATIA (3D CAD) design software
Experience in Quality Management processes and information and records management principles
Experience or knowledge of Systems Engineering
Experience of working in a multi-disciplined research environment
Experience of implementing and administering Change Management Process Experience and/or training in CMII principles
