The role
As a Topographical Surveyor, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Babcock supports Network Rail and other rail industry customers in providing a safe, reliable, and efficient rail network across Great Britain.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for the delivery of surveys in an efficient, cost effective and safe manner. Primarily you will work within our Rail business however, may have the opportunity to work with other commercial businesses including within the Nuclear industry.

  • Responsible for the technical delivery of your topographical survey projects.
  • Carry out any site works in a safe and efficient manner adhering to Babcock International's and Network Rail's technical and safety standards.
  • Liase with both external and internal stakeholders, always ensuring the highest level of service.
  • Stay up to date on the latest technology and working practices to ensure we are always offering the most cost and time effective solutions for our customers.

This role is full time at 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday and will be based at our site in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire with hybrid working from home arrangements. Due to the nature of our Rail business, there is an expectation to work nights and some weekends, in return you will receive shift disturbance allowances of up to time and three quarters of your salaried rate depending on shift worked. There is a requirement to travel to sites across the UK and Northern Ireland.

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. We are happy to consider flexible, blended working, including part-time, condensed hours, and job sharing. Please ask about alternative patterns of work at interview.

Essential experience of the Topographical Surveyor:

  • Experience of working within in the Rail industry is highly desirable.
  • Competent in Topographical surveying, including the use of the latest Total Stations, data collection of both Static and RTK GPS surveys, Route Clearance surveys, deformation surveys, elevation surveys and track setting out.
  • Experience of Lazer scanning
  • Have worked with UAV's (Drones) previously either as a pilot or post processing.

Qualifications for the Topographical Surveyor:

  • Educated to HNC / HND level within a relevant engineering discipline however, we value difference and don't have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.
